How to get there

Getting there and getting away

British Airways, Wizz Air and Air Bulgaria operate regular direct flights to Varna from Gatwick.  Flights from Gatwick take approximately 3 hours, 15 Minutes.

Transfers to and from the airport can be arranged for you, alternatively you can take a taxi or a bus.

You can also fly to Sofia and take a connecting flight to Varna. Both Wizz Air (from London Luton) and Easy Jet (from Manchester and Gatwick) fly to Sofia. You can then take a connecting flight to Varna with Air Bulgaria or again with Wizz Air.

You can also fly to Burgas with WizzAir and hire a car. Burgas is about 140Kms south of Varna. The drive is pleasant taking you up onto a high forested plateau before dropping back down into Varna. The road passes through several pleasant beach resorts such as Obzor and Emine Cape. On a good day the drive from Burgas Airport to the Apartment should take about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Other non direct routes include Budapest with Wizz Air and Bucharest with Ryan Air, though these will involve using different airlines and can often require an overnight stay.

Getting there and getting away for the more adventurous

There are several routes to take from Bucharest; inland crossing the Danube at Rousse is quite pleasant. Alternatively you can head for the Black Sea at Constanta. In May 2008 they were still building the a motorway to cover parts of this route. Once at the black sea you then head South down into Bulgaria. The coastline from Romania heading down to Varna is spectacular in many places.

Fly to Constanta on the Romanian Black sea coast and hire a car. Flights are available with Ryan Air, though at the moment you have to change at Pisa. The distance to Alen Mak is about 160Kms (100 miles).

Fly to Sofia, the Bulgarian capital, take a train or hire a car. By train the journey time is about 7.4 hours or longer if you take the night train. To drive, the distance is about 280 miles, the first and last 50 or so miles are motorway. If you take this option it is worth spending a couple of nights here to tour the town. About half way between Sofia and Varna is Veliko Turnovo which is worth a visit.

For the really adventurous, you could fly to Istanbul and drive. The distance is less than the drive from Sofia, however you may have to pay extra to take a car out of Turkey; you will also need to make sure that you have all the correct paperwork.
